My name is Grayson Huston and I am a PhD student at the University of Maine, Orono. My current research focuses on fish sedimentary DNA, which is DNA that has been shed by an organism, settled at the bottom of a lake or pond, and been preserved in the sediment record. By isolating the DNA of target species and whole communities, I hope to use sedDNA as a survey tool to inform conservationists on a species' historic presence and abundance, as well as understand how fish communities have changed over time.
